Breathe Better
Sat Nam <<First Name>>
We wanted to share some breath practices from reading the book ‘Breath’ by James Nestor.
The information in quotes comes from the book and we added some kundalini practices:
“Decongest the nose”:
Neti water rinsing and oiling the nostrils with Nasya oil.
“Chew longer and harder to create more cranial bones”:
I now chew these kinds of gum for one hour each day: Falim or Mastic gum
“This stresses the body on purpose, snapping it out of its funk so that it can properly function the other hours of the day. Conscious heavy breathing teaches us to be the pilots of our autonomic nervous systems and our bodies, not the passengers.”
Breath of Fire for 11 minutes a day.
“One of the first steps in healthy breathing is to extend the breath, to move the diaphragm up and down a bit more, and to get air out of us before taking a new one in.”
3 minutes of Naulies first thing in the morning
“Shut your mouth and breathe through your nose”. “The health benefits of nose breathing are undeniable. One of the many benefits is that the sinuses release a huge boost of nitric oxide, a molecule that plays an essential role in increasing circulation and delivering oxygen into cells. Immune function, weight, circulation, mood and sexual function can all be heavily influenced by the amount of nitric oxide in the body. Nasal breathing alone can boost nitric oxide sixfold, which is one of the reason we can absorb about 18% more oxygen than by just breathing through the mouth.”
So I now tape my mouth shut at night with 3M Nexcare durable cloth tape. I can sleep through the night again like when I was a child, I don’t snore, I feel rested when I wake….
“The key to optimum breathing and all the health, endurance, and longevity benefits that comes with it, is to practice fewer inhales and exhales in a smaller volume, to breathe, but to breathe less.”
11 minutes of this meditation daily:
Hands interlaced in the lap, inhale and exhale hold the breath out and mentally repeat this mantra:
Sat Narayan Wahe Guru, Hari Narayan Sat Nam, Sat Narayan Wahe Guru Hari Narayan Sat Nam.
Not one but Three times.
then inhale, exhale and hold the breath out and mentally repeat the mantra 3x, and continue.
FYI: “the lungs are the weight-regulating system of the body” and there is SO much more cool and inspiring information in the book!
