Peru Yatra
We start our yatra with a “despacho ceremony”, a traditional Andean ritual. In a despacho ceremony, a shaman or a ceremonial leader creates a ceremonial bundle, or despacho, which typically includes a variety of natural and symbolic elements such as flowers, leaves, seeds, grains, and other items representing different aspects of life and the natural world. The items are carefully arranged on a piece of fabric and then folded and tied into a bundle.
Once the despacho is prepared, it is often offered to the sacred fire as a way of energetically dispatching the intentions and offerings to the spiritual realms. The ceremony is seen as a way to harmonize with nature, express gratitude, and create balance in the individual’s life or the community.
Despacho ceremonies are considered sacred and are often conducted with great reverence, incorporating prayers, chants, and other rituals to infuse the offering with spiritual energy. Participants in the ceremony also have the opportunity to add their own intentions or symbolic items to the despacho.
